In 2008 Kooyonga Golf Club will celebrate its eighty-fifth anniversary. The Club's history has inevitably been linked with great world events, but perhaps more than any other factor, chance has played the greatest of all parts in shaping the fortunes of Kooyonga.

Its very origins were the result of a fateful train strike in 1922 which caused Herbert Lockett Rymill to travel by tram to Henley Beach - a journey that he broke in order to investigate a vast tract of vacant land with an alluring 'For Sale' sign. And from 'Cargie' Rymill's visionary perspective, the rich, low-lying paddocks and beautiful golf course beloved of so many Adelaide golfers, past and present.
